red-ivory-persian-khorasan-floral-medallion-rug-385x295cm
Red & Ivory Persian Khorasan Floral Medallion Rug 385 × 295 cm

A richly detailed handmade Persian Khorasan rug featuring a traditional floral medallion composition. A large, ornate central medallion structured in cream, ivory and blue forms the focal point against the rich red field. Dense scrolling floral vines, palmettes and stylised blossoms extend throughout the field, while contrasting cream corner spandrels and multiple decorative floral borders create an elaborate frame around the composition.

Rich red unquestionably dominates the rug, covering the majority of the main field and substantial areas of the border. Cream and ivory provide the principal contrast, particularly within the central medallion, corner spandrels and finer border details. Additional accents of navy and royal blue, golden yellow, ochre, olive green, brown, light blue, grey-blue and subtle teal bring further depth to the intricate design. Handmade in Iran with a wool pile on a cotton foundation, this approximately 50-year-old Persian rug has an authentic time-worn character that reflects its age, traditional craftsmanship and history.

Measuring approximately 385 × 295cm, this substantial rug is particularly well suited beneath a six-seater rectangular dining table, where its generous proportions can accommodate the dining chairs while still allowing areas of the field and decorative border to remain visible. It would also work beautifully in a formal living room or large lounge. Its rich colouring and naturally aged character make it particularly complementary to dark timber, antique furniture, farmhouses, safari lodges and interiors featuring vintage or collected pieces.

Rug Details

Rug Type: Persian Khorasan

Origin: Iran

Approximate Age: 50 years

Construction: Handmade

Material: Wool pile on a cotton foundation

Size: Approximately 385 × 295cm

Shape: Rectangular

Design: Floral Medallion

Predominant Colours: Red and Cream / Ivory

Additional Colours: Navy Blue / Royal Blue, Golden Yellow / Ochre, Olive Green, Brown, Light Blue / Grey-Blue and Teal / Green

Condition: Refurbished with age-related wear

Sale Type: Auction — one unique piece

Age, Condition & Refurbishment

The appeal of these older handmade rugs lies in their authentic aged character.
