Measuring 362cm x 266cm, this handmade flatweave wool rug combines burnt orange and rust red with ivory, light blue, slate blue and navy blue, complemented by soft grey and subtle dusty pink accents.
The traditional tribal design features a fine diamond lattice that covers the central field, with each compartment holding a small stepped motif. Lighter ivory and grey diamonds gather towards the centre, giving the field a subtle central focus. A border of stepped diamond motifs outlined in navy and ivory frames the field on all four sides, finished with a burnt orange outer edge.
Burnt orange and rust red establish the principal colour, filling the lattice and the outer edge and giving the rug its warm, glowing character. Ivory outlines the lattice and lightens the field. Light blue and slate blue bring cool contrast to the motifs, while navy blue defines the border diamonds. Soft grey and subtle dusty pink accents add gentle depth.
Handmade in Afghanistan from wool, the traditional flatweave construction highlights the natural texture and tonal variation of the yarn. The fine diamond lattice and the border of outlined stepped diamonds reflect the geometric influences associated with traditional Afghan kilim weaving, giving the rug a warm handcrafted character.
