An elegant handmade Persian Kashan rug featuring a clearly defined central medallion surrounded by an intricate, symmetrical arrangement of traditional floral motifs. Scrolling vines, palmettes and blossoms extend throughout the field, while the decorative border continues the classical floral design and creates a beautifully detailed frame around the composition.

Warm cream and ivory dominate the rug, extending across the main field and much of the border. Deep navy blue provides strong contrast, while softer light blue introduces a cooler element to the palette. Smaller details in brown, olive, beige and red add further depth throughout the design. Handmade in Iran with a wool pile on a cotton foundation, this approximately 50-year-old Persian rug has an authentic time-worn character that reflects its age, traditional craftsmanship and history.

Age, Condition & Refurbishment

The appeal of these older handmade rugs lies in their authentic aged character. Unlike a new rug, each piece carries the natural characteristics of decades of use, including areas of wear, variations in colour and texture, fading and other signs of age.

The degree of wear varies from rug to rug. Some pieces may display considerably more worn areas than others, and this is reflected in the individual rug's condition and auction pricing.

Each rug has been professionally cleaned and refurbished as far as reasonably possible, while preserving its original character and naturally aged appearance. Where required, refurbishment may also include repairs or restoration to areas such as the fringes, edges or foundation.

Refurbishment does not mean that the rug has been restored to an as-new condition. Areas of wear, previous repairs, variations in texture, fading and other age-related characteristics may remain visible and form part of the rug's individual character and appeal.

These time-worn handmade rugs are particularly popular in farmhouses, safari lodges, luxury tented camps and interiors featuring antique, vintage or collected furniture.
