A richly detailed handmade Persian Khorasan rug featuring a traditional floral medallion composition. A large, ornate central medallion structured in cream, ivory and blue forms the focal point against the rich red field. Dense scrolling floral vines, palmettes and stylised blossoms extend throughout the field, while contrasting cream corner spandrels and multiple decorative floral borders create an elaborate frame around the composition.

Rich red unquestionably dominates the rug, covering the majority of the main field and substantial areas of the border. Cream and ivory provide the principal contrast, particularly within the central medallion, corner spandrels and finer border details. Additional accents of navy and royal blue, golden yellow, ochre, olive green, brown, light blue, grey-blue and subtle teal bring further depth to the intricate design. Handmade in Iran with a wool pile on a cotton foundation, this approximately 50-year-old Persian rug has an authentic time-worn character that reflects its age, traditional craftsmanship and history.

Age, Condition & Refurbishment

The appeal of these older handmade rugs lies in their authentic aged character. Unlike a new rug, each piece carries the natural characteristics of decades of use, including areas of wear, variations in colour and texture, fading and other signs of age.

The degree of wear varies from rug to rug. Some pieces may display considerably more worn areas than others, and this is reflected in the individual rug's condition and auction pricing.

Each rug has been professionally cleaned and refurbished as far as reasonably possible, while preserving its original character and naturally aged appearance. Where required, refurbishment may also include repairs or restoration to areas such as the fringes, edges or foundation.

Refurbishment does not mean that the rug has been restored to an as-new condition. Areas of wear, previous repairs, variations in texture, fading and other age-related characteristics may remain visible and form part of the rug's individual character and appeal.
