A striking handmade Persian Mahal rug featuring a strong, angular central medallion with distinctly geometric contours. The expansive red field is densely decorated with repeating geometric and floral motifs, while deep navy corner sections provide bold contrast around the central composition. A substantial navy patterned border completes the design and gives the rug a strong traditional Persian character.

Rich, saturated red unquestionably dominates the main field, complemented by deep navy blue and softer cream and ivory tones. Noticeable accents of light blue, turquoise, teal, golden yellow and brown introduce further depth and variation throughout the medallion, field and border. Handmade in Iran with a wool pile on a cotton foundation, this approximately 50-year-old Persian rug has an authentic time-worn character that reflects its age, traditional craftsmanship and history.

Measuring approximately 396 × 299cm, this is a substantial statement rug particularly well suited to a formal living room or large lounge. Age, Condition & Refurbishment

The appeal of these older handmade rugs lies in their authentic aged character. Unlike a new rug, each piece carries the natural characteristics of decades of use, including areas of wear, variations in colour and texture, fading and other signs of age.
