Introduce warm, elegant colour and graceful floral detail to your interior with this Rust Red & Cream Ziegler Design Afghan Rug from the Ariana Collection. Measuring 167cm x 123cm, this handmade wool rug combines a rich rust red field with a soft cream border, complemented by sky blue, navy, mustard gold, burnt orange and ivory accents.
The Ziegler-style design centres on a small round rosette medallion, set within a rust red field of fine scrolling vines. Large paisley (boteh) motifs in blue, gold and cream are placed around the medallion, with smaller blossoms and leaf sprays filling the space between them. A wide cream border frames the field with large round rosettes at the corners and along the sides, alternating with paisley motifs and stylised red plant forms, while narrow guard stripes in blue and gold complete the composition.
Rust red establishes the principal colour, covering the central field and giving the rug a warm, inviting character. Cream provides the main contrast in the wide border, softening the palette and framing the field. Sky blue and navy outline the vines, paisleys and rosettes, while mustard gold and burnt orange add warmth to the floral detail. Small ivory highlights lift the motifs and add definition throughout.
Handmade in Afghanistan with a wool pile on a cotton foundation, this rug has a soft pile that gives the floral design a gentle depth. Subtle tonal variation in the rust red field adds natural character, and a cotton fringe with coloured wrapped ends finishes each short side.
At 167cm x 123cm, this rug works well beneath a coffee table, beside a bed or in a study or reading corner, and it makes a welcoming first impression in an entrance hall.
