Measuring 137cm x 106cm, this handmade wool rug combines terracotta and burnt orange with royal blue and navy, complemented by cream, mustard gold, teal green and brick red accents.

Inspired by traditional saddlebag weavings, the Khorjeen design is arranged in horizontal bands. A wide band near each end features hooked, stepped motifs and small navy medallion forms on a terracotta ground, while the central band carries a fret-like key pattern with small star motifs on a deep red ground. Narrow bands of small geometric motifs, several on a cream ground, and multicoloured stripes separate the main bands.

Terracotta and burnt orange establish the principal colour, forming the ground of the ornamental bands and much of the striped field. Royal blue and navy provide the main contrast in the stripes, the medallion forms and the narrow motif bands. Cream lightens the design, while mustard gold and teal green add bright accents. Brick red detailing adds depth to the geometric motifs.

Handmade in Afghanistan with a wool pile on a cotton foundation, the rug shows natural tonal variation in the wool, most visible in the softly shaded blue and teal stripes. A tasselled fringe with multicoloured wrapped ends finishes each short side.

At 137cm x 106cm, this rug suits a bedside, an entrance hall or a study, and its proportions also sit well beneath a coffee table or in a reading corner.
