Measuring 152cm x 100cm, this handmade wool rug combines warm rust and burnt orange with deep blue, complemented by mustard gold, ochre, teal green, burgundy, cream and brown accents.

The Khorjeen design takes its inspiration from traditional saddlebag weavings, and here it is arranged in broad horizontal bands. A wide band near each end features a stepped zigzag pattern enclosing small diamond and hooked motifs on a gold and ochre ground. The central band holds a row of large stepped diamond medallions, while narrow rows of small tribal motifs and multicoloured stripes separate the ornamental bands.

Rust and burnt orange establish the principal warm tones, running through many of the stripes. Deep blue provides the strongest contrast, appearing in the stripes and outlining the motifs. Mustard gold and ochre dominate the wide end bands, adding a bright, warm glow. Teal green and burgundy introduce depth, while cream and brown accents define the diamond medallions and zigzag detailing.

Handmade in Afghanistan with a wool pile on a cotton foundation, the rug shows natural tonal variation in the wool that gives each stripe a soft, shaded look. A tasselled fringe with multicoloured wrapped ends finishes each short side.
