Measuring 148cm x 100cm, this handmade wool rug combines deep burgundy red with burnt orange and mustard gold, complemented by navy, mid blue, forest green, brown and cream accents.

Inspired by traditional saddlebag weavings, this Khorjeen design features a wide ornamental band near each end, each holding a row of five diamond medallions in red, gold and blue on a deep blue ground. A narrower band of small geometric motifs runs through the centre, and the rest of the field is made up of multicoloured stripes of varying width, with fine rows of small tribal motifs adding detail between them.

Deep burgundy red establishes the principal colour, running through many of the stripes and framing the ornamental bands. Burnt orange and mustard gold provide warm contrast in the stripes and medallions. Navy and mid blue form the ground of the end bands, while forest green introduces a cooler accent. Brown and cream detailing adds definition to the geometric motifs.

Handmade in Afghanistan with a wool pile on a cotton foundation, the rug shows natural tonal variation in the wool, giving the stripes a soft, shaded appearance. A narrow flatwoven band and a cream cotton fringe finish each short end.

At 148cm x 100cm, this rug is well proportioned for a bedside, a study or an entrance hall, and it adds warmth beneath a coffee table or in a reading corner.
