Measuring 147cm x 101cm, this handmade wool rug combines terracotta red and rust with sky blue, complemented by navy, peach, cream, mustard gold and teal green accents.

Khorjeen designs are inspired by traditional saddlebag weavings, and this rug follows their banded layout. A wide band near each end is built from a stepped zigzag and diamond framework on a deep red ground, enclosing small stars, rosettes and chequered diamonds in blue and peach. A narrower central band carries a row of small geometric motifs, and soft multicoloured stripes fill the space between, with rows of tiny tribal motifs adding finer detail.

Terracotta red and rust establish the principal colour, forming the ground of the ornamental bands and many of the stripes. Sky blue provides the main cool contrast, appearing in the stripes, the chequered diamonds and the outer edges. Peach and cream soften the palette, while navy, mustard gold and teal green accents add depth and definition to the geometric detailing.

Handmade in Afghanistan with a wool pile on a cotton foundation, the rug shows natural tonal variation in the wool, giving the stripes a soft, shaded appearance. A narrow blue flatwoven band and a short cream cotton fringe finish each end.
