Measuring 391cm x 308cm, this handmade flatweave wool rug combines teal green and turquoise blue with ivory and beige, complemented by navy blue, sage green and taupe, with subtle olive green, dusty blue and grey accents.
The traditional tribal design features an all-over grid of small stepped diamonds set within ivory zigzag outlines across the central field. The diamonds alternate between teal, beige and blue-grey tones, creating a calm, even repeat. An ivory band and a broad beige border with small teal and blue hooked motifs frame the field, finished with a teal outer edge.
Teal green and turquoise blue establish the principal colour, appearing in the outer edge, the border motifs and many of the field diamonds. Ivory outlines every diamond and lightens the overall design, while beige and taupe give the border and field a warm, neutral balance. Navy blue and dusty blue add cooler depth, with sage green, olive green and grey accents providing subtle tonal variation.
Handmade in Afghanistan from wool, the traditional flatweave construction highlights the natural texture and tonal variation of the yarn. The orderly stepped diamonds, zigzag outlines and hooked border motifs reflect the geometric influences associated with traditional Afghan kilim weaving, giving the rug a calm handcrafted character.
